Typhoon Ondoy poured a month's worth of rain in six hours leaving most of Metro Manila, Rizal, and Laguna flooded up to eight feet in some places. One of the hardest hit is Cainta, Rizal. Responding to those greatly affected in this area, PUSONG PINOY BAGUIO-BENGUET headed by Team Leaders BYD BAWAYAN and ADI LAPPAO, and MPBC BINNADANG GROUP, a charity arm of the Mountain Province Broadcasting Corporation, stations DZWT 540AM Radyo Totoo and DZWR 99.9 Country FM initiated a relief drive.
Donations from Baguio-Benguet and Pusong Pinoy poured in and volunteers from Pusong Pinoy Team Baguio-Benguet, Indigenous Youth Network (IYN), and countless others came to help in the purchasing, sorting, and repacking of goods for the relief drive. Special thanks to Pusong Pinoy Texas USA headed by TL DANA MARTY GALI for donating P11,000 worth of relief goods.
On October 7, 2009, despite heavy rains, volunteers journeyed over 150 miles from Baguio to Cainta to personally hand over relief goods to the affected residents. To ensure the goods would be delivered safely, the Philippine National Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO-COR) escorted the volunteers.
A message from Pusong Pinoy Team Leader Byd Bawayan:
"In behalf of all the heroes of Pusong Pinoy and the superb staff of DZWT, we'd like to thank everyone who chipped in and shared in our relief operations for Typhoon Ondoy victims! With all your help, we were able to provide warm clothing and food to 511 families from Cainta, Rizal! MARAMING SALAMAT PO at MABUHAY KAYONG LAHAT! May the Lord reward you all a thousandfold!"
