UPDATE: Pusong Pinoy recipient, EFREN PENAFLORIDA JR, who started a "pushcart classroom" in the Philippines to bring education to poor children, has been named the 2009 CNN HERO OF THE YEAR. CNN's Anderson Cooper revealed PeƱaflorida's selection at the conclusion of the third-annual "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute" at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on November 21, 2009.
PUSONG PINOY COMPLETED "PROJECT KARITON PARA SA DYNAMIC TEEN COMPANY"
On September 13, 2009, Pusong Pinoy formally announces the end of its project "KARITON PROJECT PARA SA DTC" raising P60,000 towards the purchase of two karitons (pushcarts) for Dynamic Teen Company. Volunteers of DTC pushes a “kariton” in the slum areas of Cavite. Instead of the stereotyped contents like garbage, the "kariton" contains books and other educational materials that are being shared to the children in these slum areas; hence, the term "Kariton Klasrum" (pushcart classroom). DTC's work has been recognized not only in the Philippines, but worldwide, and its founder, Efren Penaflorida Jr., was nominated for the CNN Heroes of 2009 in October 2009.
Project Kariton was launched on September 1, 2009 with a targeted completion date of October 15, 2009. What was meant to be a one and half month project, Pusong Pinoy completed this project in 13 days! It was spearheaded by Pusong Pinoy Hong Kong led by Team Leader JAY MARTINEZ, Team Leader JINKY SONSALLA, and PP Coordinators CAROL VEGA, KAREN SORIANO, and WYS VAS-VILLALOBOS. They raised funds from baked goods sale and donations coming from Hong Kong, Philippines, and United States.
Pusong Pinoy would like to thank our very own TL Jay, a DJ for PINOY TAYO SANMAN, Hong Kong's hottest Pinoy Radio Station, for featuring this project and DTC on his radio show. In no time, listeners were calling in for donations.
A special thanks also to VTL Jinky who from Day 1 of this project already pledged to donate one Kariton, but nevertheless, she continued to bake cookies and work hard for this project...simply because of her love for the children whom she knows would benefit from this project.
Let's continue pushing for positive change!. Salamat mga Ka-Pusong Pinoy."
"It is a great honor for us to know and share with our fellow PUSONG PINOY like you who never lose hope for the improvement of our country. With what we are doing, something may look small and worthless, but by helping each other, spirit of communal unity, and joint effort, we can create a big change that will leave a mark in our society. We are the change that is the hope of the world. Let's continue pushing for positive change. Thank you to all fellow Pusong Pinoy."
Hats off to Team Hong Kong for completing this project in such a short time and thanks to Pusong Pinoy worldwide for supporting this project. A turnover ceremony will be held on December 2009. To know more about DTC, click here.

November was a great month for a family birthday celebration at Parish Social Action Committee (PSAC) at Lipa City in Batangas. Pusong Pinoy's Supermom MYRNA TANEDO-ROMERO and her sons, PP Team Leader CARL BERNARDO and PP Hero CONQUI BERNARDO, celebrated their birthdays by sponsoring a luncheon for the kids at PSAC. The kids celebrated their birthday with food and games. Thanks, Myrna, Carl, and Conqui, for sharing your special day with these wonderful kids!
Special thanks to LIZA DE JESUS, PP Liaison, and the entire PSAC volunteers for organizing this birthday celebration. Pusong Pinoy commends PSAC for their tireless acts of kindness and generosity towards less privileged families around their area.
What a way to celebrate their special day! Would you like to celebrate your birthday in a grand way? If so, please send us an email for more information.

A group of family and friends wanting to make a difference, one book at a time. Since its inception in 2009, Pusong Pinoy became a force of over 83,000 HEROES worldwide via Facebook trying to make a difference - one book, one meal, one piece of clothing at a time.
Our mission is to provide assistance to organizations in the Philippines that have effective programs designed to help marginalized kids learn and appreciate reading by donating used books to their cause. It is our hope that this site would inspire others to open their hearts and help make a difference in these children's lives.
Today, we begin by collecting books and donating food items but perhaps someday we can do more. Let this be our means to pay it forward and give back to our country we love so dearly.
